Riding A Bike: Life Lesson To Empower You!

Blog By Feb 20, 2024 10 Comments

Hey Love, bring on your sunny glow!….

Bike stories often define childhood resilience, from the wobbly first rides to the inevitable falls that teach us how to get back up.  The other day, while riding my bike through the neighborhood, I lost my balance, but thankfully, landed on the grass. It reminded me of those early lessons—sometimes we stumble, but the important part is how we recover. As I brushed myself off and got back on the bike, I couldn’t help but think about how those childhood lessons still apply today. Life throws us curveballs, unexpected bumps, and, yes, even the occasional wipeout. But each fall, no matter how small, reminds us of our resilience. Every time we pick ourselves up, we’re reinforcing a mindset of growth and strength—embracing the journey, wobbles and all.

The Fall

At that particular moment, it reminded me of my son, Nico, when he was 7 years old and fell off his bike. His knees were bruised, and his ego suffered a blow. As quickly as he got back up, he refused to ride the bike for months. Despite my encouragement and efforts, he was not interested. Then one day, all his friends were riding, and he stood there watching. A neighbor told him to get his bike, saying he was going to show him how not to fall. Long story short, he got back on it, and the rest is history.

“It is the same with people as it is with riding a bike. Only when moving can one comfortably maintain one’s balance.” ~ Albert Einstein

Regarding my latest fall, my buttocks were painful and my ego was labile, but at least I landed on grass. As soon as I stood back up, laughing, I dusted off my pants and continued on foot for a few minutes before getting back on the bike. Then I chuckled my way home, realizing that my impulse to get back up had always outweighed my fear or complacency. That alone was a moment of joy!

Rise Again

Have you ever thought that a person’s life is similar to that of a toddler who takes his first steps, stumbles, and tries again until he masters walking? You probably think that this analogy is an overreach, but think about it – it is simple and highlights the resilience and persistence we need for both. Isn’t it true that we fall throughout our lives, but we always get back up because we are not supposed to remain on the ground? As many times as you’ve fallen to the ground, have you ever felt comfortable enough to stay there? It’s just a reminder to you that when you fall, you get back up, no matter what the circumstances are, and that’s all you need to do at that time. You’ll figure out what to do next and where to go, but remember to get back up.

Courage is learned in adversity!

To wrap up my bike story, I still ride mine. However, it is amusing to think that I never rode a bike on the street where I lived during my childhood through my early adulthood because I never owned a bike as a youngster. That was not enough to discourage me from riding my brother’s bike, and when I visited my father in his retirement years in the south of the country, I always rode a bike. Although I was not the best bike rider, I always had a terrific time. You might be wondering why I continue to ride? I still find it relaxing and it’s a fun activity. It also brings back memories of when I was younger and first taught Nico how to ride a bike.

Final Thoughts

So, when life knocks you down, rise up with purpose, dust yourself off, and remember—you’re stronger than any setback. Every time you get back up, you’re not just continuing the journey; you’re adding layers of resilience, courage, and growth that fuel your path forward. Think of each stumble as part of the ride, a chance to learn and build up your inner strength. So get back on that bike, ride like you own the road, and let every fall remind you that you have the power to rise again, better and bolder each time. Embrace the journey with confidence and joy—you’ve got what it takes to keep moving forward!

  5. I understand how it feels when falling off the bike, one time got into a little accident and got bruised as well. However, I kept going because we learned as we continued riding, and it was fun. Love your post and how you encourage for this. Thank you!
