Commencement, Chaos, and a Whole Lot of Love!

Hey Love, bring on your sunny glow!… Commencement weekend for my baby just wrapped up—and wow, let me tell you, it was the best weekend ever… in the most chaotic way possible.”😅

From Alligator Alley to Commencement:

It was a  weekend full of surprises. It all started with car trouble just as I hit Alligator Alley. Then my mom wasn’t feeling well (what felt like forever in the moment), and I forgot to reserve a table for dinner—of course, no luck getting one last minute. Someone lost their phone—cue eight hours of detective work and stress. And just as the car pulled up, my zipper gave out. No backup dress in sight, so I threw on whatever was lying on my bed. Oh—and yes, we were late to the commencement, and rain was on the program. Thankfully, I grabbed an umbrella for my mom.

But here’s the thing: we laughed through all of it. The energy was high, the vibe was right, and looking back, I wouldn’t change a single thing.

Because somehow, it all worked out. The car was fine. My mom bounced back. We eventually got amazing food, and during the hour-and-a-half wait for a table, we sat outside and had the kind of easy, unhurried conversation that sticks with you. My last-minute outfit? Weirdly perfect. And Nico? He had exactly the kind of celebration he wanted—nothing fancy, just his people, all there, all in.

No Reservations, No Zipper, No Problem!

If this weekend reminded me of anything, it’s this: don’t sweat the little stuff. Things will go sideways. Plans will fall through. Zippers will break. But those aren’t the things that define the moment.

What stays with you is the laughter, the love, and simply being there. The imperfect moments? They’re often the ones that become the best memories. And this one definitely did.

Commencement Weekend Takeaways:

  • Reserve your table at least a week in advance — trust me on this one.

  • Always have a second-choice outfit ready (wardrobe malfunctions happen!).

  • Get to the commencement venue early — doors open fast, and so do the seats.

  • Don’t underestimate the power of a good lunch — it fuels everything.

  • Protect your energy and show up with good vibes.

  • Don’t sweat the small stuff; it really doesn’t matter in the long run.

  • The real gems are the memories you create — not the perfect picture.

  • Enjoy every second, be present, and laugh often.

  • Most importantly, let pride fill your heart — you’ve earned it.

And as you can see, this mama’s heart couldn’t be fuller.

I’m still soaking it all in (I can’t help it).

Not All Commencement Are The Same

After I wrote this post, I was chatting with a friend and sharing all the wild details from that weekend. She reminded me that Mel Robbins had a similarly chaotic graduation weekend—one that actually sparked her whole ‘Let Them’ concept. I went back and rewatched that podcast, and honestly, it hits even harder now. Funny how clarity shows up in the middle of chaos.

If you haven’t seen it yet, I definitely recommend giving it a watch on melrobbins.com—it’s a good one.
