Hey Love, bring on your sunny glow!… This article, “Break Free from Ties: Time to Let It Go-Fly High!” was originally published on 03/18/24 and has been updated.
Breaking free isn’t always easy. In fact, it can feel downright impossible some days. But if you’ve ever caught yourself wondering why certain thoughts or memories just won’t leave you alone—know this: you’re not the only one. We all carry things. The question is, do those things still serve us?
And if you’ve ever asked yourself whether letting go would even help… maybe that alone is your answer.
Have you ever truly considered what it would mean to break free from those lingering ties? Maybe the time has come to gently let it go.
Maybe it’s time to loosen the grip and let it go.

Feel It Fully, Then FREE It
All of us have thoughts that linger—about someone, something, or even a version of ourselves we used to be. They show up uninvited, repeating like background music we didn’t ask for. Are they conscious or buried deep in the subconscious? I can’t say for sure—but either way, they’re there. And they tend to come from past regrets, almost moments, what-ifs, or unspoken words.
But what if those thoughts weren’t meant to haunt us, but to guide us?
What if regret could be a teacher instead of a trap?
I read an article by Patia Braithwaite on SELF titled “9 Small Ways to Let Go of Regret (Even When It’s Hard),” and it really stuck with me. The suggestions were simple and doable, but it was the sentence “Regret can be helpful” that made me pause. It’s true.
Regret is part of life—it’s how we relate to choices we’ve made. But it doesn’t have to weigh us down. Use it. Learn from it. Let it teach you what matters. Then, free it.
Make Room—FREE Up Space for Peace
If something in your thoughts or heart is not supporting you, maybe it’s time to clear space. Because the truth is, you deserve space to breathe. To rest. To dream about what’s ahead without being pulled backward.
Clearing mental space is easier said than done—we all know that. But that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Sometimes, we’re not even held back by what happened—we’re held back by our idea of how life was supposed to unfold.
The narrative in your mind may say you failed, or missed your chance. But what if that so-called failure redirected you to something more aligned with your truth?
Freeing up mental space is one of the kindest things you can do for yourself. It makes room for new ideas, better energy, stronger confidence. And when we’re not crowded by thoughts of what could have been, we can finally see what still could be.
FREE to Rise, FREE to Move On
Sometimes, it’s not the actual failure that haunts us—but the image we had of what life should have looked like. Sound familiar? We get attached to a version of life we pictured in our heads. And when that doesn’t pan out, it can feel like a loss.
But here’s the thing: if everything truly does happen for a reason, then maybe the missteps and missed opportunities were redirections—not dead ends.
Maybe regret is just a signpost, showing us where we were meant to pivot.
I’ve had to face my own shadows, my own disappointments. It’s never fun. But when we stop resisting what already happened and begin to accept it, we become free to rise above it. We find a little more strength, a little more clarity, and a whole lot of peace.
Letting go doesn’t erase the past—it honors it. It says, “Yes, that happened—and I’m still here.” And even if it still hurts sometimes, what’s ahead is often more beautiful than we imagined.
So here’s your moment. Ask yourself gently: What’s holding you back? What thought, memory, or idea is tying you down? Name it. Then let it go.
“Dare to live by letting go.” —Tom Althouse
Break FREE from the weight of what was.
Let yourself fly toward what could be.
You deserve that freedom.
You’ll thank yourself later.

I definitely have a lot of regrets. I need to work on letting them go. Thanks for the inspiring post!
Hi Corrinne,
Thank you for sharing that with me! Letting go can be challenging, but recognizing it is such a powerful first step. Every day is a chance to move forward, one step at a time. You’ve got this!
I was recently listening to Kate Bowler talking about regrets. I liked when she said that when we have regrets, we may be in the season of becoming…every regret makes us grow… thanks for sharing!
Hi Smiley,
Thank you for sharing that beautiful insight! Kate Bowler has such a wise way of viewing regrets, turning them into moments of growth and self-discovery. Embracing regrets as part of our journey really does remind us that we’re always becoming, always learning. I’m glad this resonated with you, too!
This really hit home. Letting go can be tough, but wow, the freedom on the other side is everything. I love the encouragement in this post. It’s just what I needed today!
Hi Angelia,
I’m really glad it spoke to you. Letting go isn’t easy, but that freedom—yes, it’s everything. Wishing you peace as you keep moving forward.
I definitely been dealing with a lot of regret lately in regards to a past relationship. Regret ia indeed a part of life whether we like it or not
Hi Meloney,
You are correct, regret is part of life, and I believe how we deal with it really impacts our lives. Wishing you peace and grace while you navigate this season of your life.
Great post! Very inspiring and I think it’s great to shift our mindset for our regrets because without them we might not have gotten to where we are today
Hi Ash,
You are absolutely correct. Without our mistakes, we would be in a different place. Life is a full cycle. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
This was such a powerful and uplifting read. Your words really spoke to the importance of releasing what no longer serves us and embracing the freedom that comes with letting go. It’s a beautiful reminder to choose growth and peace over fear and attachment.
Hi Shakia,
Thank you so much for spending some time reading and commenting on this post. And I must, admit choosing growth and peace over fear and attachment can be so hard; the habitual always has a grip on us!
Love this, while letting go and trusting in the timing of your own life is hard, I completely agree that often it’s becuase we are being redirected to better things, or away from bad things!
Hi Katherine,
Totally agree! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts here.
I love the message behind this! Sometimes we hold onto things, whether it’s memories or old thoughts, without even realizing how much they weigh us down. The idea of “breaking free” can feel overwhelming, but this really makes me think about how much lighter life could feel if we let go of what’s no longer serving us. Definitely something worth reflecting on—thanks for sharing this!
Hi Ann,
Thank you for your kind words. Appreciate you taking the time to reflect on this topic. Breaking free is a life journey. Trying to hold on to things that no longer serve us can be exhausting.
I love the part where you mention that maybe it’s trying to teach us something. I agree! What a good reminder.
Hi Ciara,
Thank you so much! Glad that this line spoke to you.
I’ve been re-reading “Break Free from Ties: Time to Let It Go-Fly High!” again, and I’m really motivated by it. It really resonated with me and I’ve decided that I’m going to start letting go of anything in my life that’s not serving me anymore. Anything that causes me more stress than it’s worth or holds me back from reaching my goals or causes me pain has to go. I’m ready to finally start living for myself and what makes me happy, instead of what might work or what someone else might want from me.
Hi Jeaneane,
Wow, that’s such a strong decision. It’s not easy to let go, but choosing yourself is always worth it. I’m really glad the piece spoke to you—keep going, one step at a time.
I really needed to read this today. You’re so right that regret is part of life, but we need to use it to learn and move on and make peace! Something I often struggle with is leaving the past in the past!
I Debbie,
I hear you—leaving the past behind can be tough, especially when regret creeps in. But you’re right, it’s about learning and giving ourselves grace to move forward. One step at a time.
Wow, I really needed to read this. This really resonated with me because I have a tendency to get hung up on how I should have done things differently. What a beautiful post, thank you! Saving this one so I can come back to it!
Hi Kayla,
Thank you so much. I totally get that feeling—I’ve been there too. It means a lot to know this spoke to you. I’m really glad you’re keeping it close.
Breaking free from the ties that are holding us back are super important. A much needed read!
Hi Hari,
Thank you so much for reading and sharing your thoughts!
Wow, thank you so much for this beautiful article. I love how you present regrets as teachers instead of having to weigh us down. This is so important to remember as we walk through life. It’s okay to have regrets but our choices made us who we are today and teach us how to make better choices in the future!
Hi Caitlyn,
Thank you! I love how you put it—regrets as teachers, not weights. It’s so true that they help us learn and grow. I really appreciate you sharing that.
Thanks for this awesome reminder! Super helpful!
Hi Hari,
Thank you so much!
This is a great reminder and something I am working on with myself.
Hi Laurel,
Thank you so much! Wishing you all the best.
