All of us have unceasing, persistent thoughts about someone or something that occupy our brains; are these thoughts conscious or subconscious? I’m not sure how to respond to that question; perhaps a psychologist could. However, I believe it’s best to use these thoughts—which I understand to be regrets, near misses, and other such experiences—as lessons and stepping stones to a better place where acceptance and wisdom reside. If this isn’t supporting you, clear some room for more positive, happy thoughts. Simpler said than done, isn’t it?
Regret Can Be Helpful
I read an article on SELF, published by Patia Braithwaite titled “9 small ways to let go of regret (even when it’s hard).” The measures provided to assist someone overcome regrets are simple and effective, in my opinion, and the article is a really enjoyable read. However, the four words “Regret can be helpful” particularly inspired me. When we think about regrets, we usually think of an unfortunate event that happened, but what if we used them as fuel to shift our story and move on in life? Regrets can be helpful; after all, they are an unavoidable part of life; we only need to change our perspective on them.
Sometimes, it’s not the things we actually failed at, but rather our own ideas of what we want out of life that keep us back. The saying, “everything happens for a reason” comes to mind when we consider the unexpected course of life. If this is the case, then regrets should be turned into lessons by taking the proper actions, and the lessons learned should serve as a source of personal empowerment and drive. Ultimately, regrets should propel us to new heights rather than bring us to new lows.
Letting Go
I don’t need anyone to tell me that what I’m saying is easier said than done… I’ve personally struggled with some painful moments from the past. Today, I want to talk about how, when we redirect our thoughts away from unfulfilled goals, we create space to grow and turn those experiences into inspiration to keep moving forward.
Letting go isn’t about erasing the past; it’s about accepting it and allowing things to be as they are. As life continues, we also move forward. Though it can still hurt to let go of what we once wanted, often what’s ahead is better than what was. It’s natural to feel that struggle, but learning to let things be is key to moving on. While it’s never easy, it’s always worth it.
So ask yourself today; What holds you back? Whatever it is, let it go and let it be! Break free from all ties and fly high. You will thank yourself later!
